Growing up as the son of respected Fire Chief, Mike has had a deep connection to, and passion for the life safety industry his entire life. Following in his father’s footsteps and after earning his bachelor degree from Oklahoma State University in Fire Protection and Safety Technology, Mike also graduated fire academy, becoming a certified fire fighter, investigator, and EMT, which lead to his opportunity to apply that experience as an FPE for the City of Boulder, CO, where he performed final inspections, reviewed plans, and assisted with fire investigations. He later moved home to Texas and joined the City of Dallas’ fire protection engineering team, alongside Jay Loucks, P.E. as an engineering and plan review assistant. Looking to broaden his knowledge of the fire protection trade, Mike later took a position in the private sector, working for a reputable installation firm in the DFW area, and was a successful estimator and project manager, giving him a hands-on, field application of his studies and FD experience. Mike is a NICET Level III in Water Based Systems Layout, and is working toward his Texas State P.E. license next. He also is the department lead for GreenTag’s training division, providing applicable course instruction to local fire departments, as well as installation contractors and sprinkler designers. With his willingness to share his extensive fire protection knowledge, Mike provides a wealth of information to our customers and jurisdictions as a GreenTag Code Expert.
